A long-time Bath Rugby Foundation supporter and volunteer is hoping to set a new world record when he crosses the finish line at next month’s Bath Half Marathon.

Simply running the 13 miles around the city streets is not enough for Ian Martin who is taking part in the race wearing a full field hockey goalkeeping kit.

Ian is hoping to raise as much money as possible for Bath Rugby Foundation, having volunteered with Bath Rugby’s charity for three years.

He said: “I became connected to the Foundation via my work Thrings LLP and have stayed connected selling raffle tickets at home games where you get to tell people about the amazing work the Foundation is undertaking.”

This is not the first time Ian has lined up for the Bath Half in fancy dress. Last year he completed the race wearing the Foundation’s man-sized rugby ball costume.

Ian said: “I ran the Bath Half Marathon 2019 in the Foundation's Rugby Ball to help advertise the Foundation and this year I have decided to go one bigger and try and set a world record in the process!”

The world record time for completing a half marathon in a “field hockey goalkeeping kit" currently stands at 2h 45min.

Ian said: “This is an amazing opportunity to set a world record and also raise the awareness of the Foundation in doing so.

“As the year is 2020, I would love to try and raise that amount!”
