HITZ is the UK’s largest rugby union social inclusion programme working with over 2,000 16-24-year olds across England.

Almost 1.1m young people in the UK are not in education, employment or training. Just over half (53.6 percent) are looking for work and without action, we risk losing a whole generation to a cycle of unemployment, disillusionment and disengagement.

Funded by sponsors Land Rover and Wooden Spoon, HITZ is Premiership Rugby's flagship education and employability programme, which works with over 2,000 young people across England every year.

In 2019 SCL Education & Training expanded their partnership with Premiership Rugby to become the exclusive education partner, managing all educational aspects of the Premiership Rugby HITZ programme, leading providers of education through sport, SCL, have more than 15 years’ experience in delivering a range of forward thinking and successful education and sports.

This award-winning alternative education provides an informal structure for students where the current academic structure doesn’t suit. Our specialist coaches capitalise on sport’s ability to remove barriers, build trust and increase confidence to set students on the path to success.

90 per cent of our students complete the course improving their numeracy, literacy and IT skills and 75% of our young people taking on further education, employment, training, work placements or apprenticeships.

Qualifications and Skills

Our core offer, the HITZ Learning Academy, offers a relaxed environment targeted at young people aged 16-19 (16-24 if you have EHC plan) allowing students to improve their functional maths and English, develop valuable life skills and gain important qualifications.

The programmes also offer essential enrichment and sporting activities which supports the development of the whole individual, not only improving mental, but physical wellbeing as well. During enrichment, students will also:

• Learn new skills to become work ready
• Experience over 40 different sports
• Learn how cook and eat more healthily
• Experience away trips and events
• Complete professional PSHE workshops
• Improve communication and confidence
• Experience networking and employability events

More about Bath Rugby HITZ

At Bath Rugby HITZ we are lucky to have access to some amazing facilities. Our Learning Academy is based at the Rec, the famous home of Bath Rugby. As well as taking part in a range of sports at the Rec, our students use facilities provided by GLL across Bath. We have fantastic links with local businesses and will actively search for the right work placements for our students.

We will give you the tools to succeed. 

There will be an opportunity for a ‘soft start’ for those young people who may struggle or be anxious with the enrolment process, this would include coming into HITZ for a flexible period of time before the course starts to familiarise themselves with the people and environment.

Due to the high demand and limited capacity of the course, we encourage any young person who wishes to enrol to register interest with us as soon as possible.
