Hi5! Dance Club What is the programme? Hi5! Dance is a FREE activity for children and young people aged 7+ with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in the Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES). Hi5! Dance is our fun and activity, it is run weekly with help from our fabulous dance lead, Rosanna Hood. Following our dance experts lead, our Hi5! Dance sessions are fun, energetic and a great opportunity for not only learning new dance moves, but helping to develop coordination, balance, agility, and overall health and fitness in a safe space whilst making new friends and developing social skills. What is the need for the programme in the community? Children and young people with disabilities are more likely to be obese than children without disabilities and this risk increases with age, this is likely due to unusual dietary patterns and fewer opportunities to engage in physical activity. Finding a sport for you or your family member to enjoy can be a struggle – with few opportunities to just come along and give it a try. Hi5! Sport not only tackles obesity, increases physical activity and fitness but also helps those with disabilities to make friends and breaks down barriers to social inclusion, preventing isolation and increasing overall health both physically and mentally. Project Outcomes Our Hi5! Dance are a fun way for children and young adults with disabilities to be physically active and move around, helping to tackle obesity and improve overall health. These sessions also provide the opportunity for participants to make new friends outside of school and develop life and social skills from a young age, creating independence and building confidence. How to get involved? Hi5! Dance runs on a Tuesday evening 4.30pm – 5.30pm during term time at 28 Milsom Street, BA1 1DG for those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) aged 7+.
