Our Programmes School and Community Projects Sport For All Hi5! (SEND) HI5! SEND Programme An introduction into our Hi5! programmes The Hi5! Club, run by the Bath Rugby Foundation (BRF), is an after-school programme tailored for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in the Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES) area. Catering to individuals aged 5-25, Hi5! aims to enhance the mental and physical health of its participants while fostering skills for more independent living. Established in 2006, the club primarily addresses two critical barriers to a healthy, fulfilling, and independent lifestyle: physical activity and social isolation. Aims Create an engaging environment where children and young people with SEND can participate in enjoyable physical activities. Reduce social isolation. Increase mental wellbeing. Support and encourage parents to help their child lead an active and independent lifestyle. Break down barriers and promote inclusion in sports, contributing to a diverse sporting community. Clubs and Activities Hi5! Junior - Mondays 30 weeks of 1-hour sessions for primary school aged children (5-11) Held at St Michael’s Junior School. A variety of sports are introduced, focusing on social benefits until participants feel comfortable. Activities include adapted cycling, athletics, baseball, basketball, boccia, football, hockey, netball, rounders, rugby, spin, swimming, tennis, ten-pin bowling, trampolining, ultimate frisbee, visually impaired cricket, mixed ability rugby, and Zumba. Hi5! Sport & Social - Mondays 30 weeks of 1-hour sessions during the school year for participants aged 16-25. Held at Bath Rec Sports Hub. Activities include adapted cycling, athletics, baseball, basketball, boccia, football, hockey, netball, rounders, rugby, swimming, tennis, ten-pin bowling, trampolining, ultimate frisbee, and visually impaired cricket. Followed by an hour of social time where we host activities such as: Jenga, Uno, charades, pool, tabletop games, word searches, and quizzes. Aims to develop social networks, reduce isolation, and increase confidence for independent living. Hi5! Golf - Thursdays 30 weeks of 1.5-hour sessions for participants aged 7-25. Hosted at Saltford Community Golf Club. Focus on social benefits and gradual skill development in golf. Utilises academy green and driving range, with indoor social activities during colder weather. Partnerships and Support Hi5! benefits from partnerships with local organisations such as Saltford Community Golf Club, Bath Recreation, and St Michael's Junior School. These collaborations ensure a comprehensive and inclusive programme for all participants. Alignment with B&NES SEND Strategy Hi5! aligns with the vision outlined in the B&NES SEND Strategy 2020-2023, supported by the Children and Young People’s Plan 2019-2021. This vision ensures that all children and young people enjoy childhood and are well-prepared for adult life. It emphasises that children and young people with SEND deserve excellent opportunities to learn, develop, and achieve their aspirations, receiving the best start in life from all service providers aiming to improve their lives and life chances. Referral and Participation Referrals to Hi5! come from special educational needs schools within the B&NES area and the B&NES Children and Young People (CYP) Network.
