Bath Rugby Foundation is proud to champion work experience for local young people across our region, having provided work-based placements within the charity for the past 20 years.

Each academic year we take on three young people from local secondary schools who come to the charity to support and shadow our coaches with their work in the local community, whether that be in schools, rugby clubs, youth hubs or are our alternative learning hub at the Recreation Ground. We believe that providing opportunities to access and learn within our environment gives young people the essential confidence, life skills and independence they need to go on and achieve their aspirations.

Hear from a Bath Rugby Foundation placement holder: 

This year Maisie Rodger, 16 from Melksham, came to us on a summer placement to further develop her coaching knowledge and confidence working with groups of people. 

“My work experience at Bath Rugby Foundation was the right decision! I was able to further my knowledge and interest in coaching, working with children of all abilities and backgrounds alongside some wonderful people. Rugby is something I am so passionate about, its helped me so much with my confidence and self-belief, my goal is to be able to empower and inspire the next generation of young girls to get involved in the game."

After Maisie’s work experience placement had finished, she made the brave decision to go on and volunteer as a coach at her local rugby club helping head up a newly formed under 12 girls’ rugby team. “I want to make sure there is a pathway for girls locally, my time with Bath Rugby Foundation has inspired me to step forward and help others achieve their goals”.

With her newly found confidence and ambition shining bright, Maisie has since gone on to be selected as part of England Rugby’s Player Development Pathway, where she will be chasing her dreams of becoming a Red Rose and becoming a role model for women and young girls nationally!
