Our Mission Our stories Ava-Rose Maddy's Mark: Ava-Rose's journey to confidence through rugby "Playing rugby has made me feel brave, confident, and happy." Before Bath Rugby Foundation partnered with Maddy’s Mark, Ava-Rose had never experienced the thrill of playing rugby. This all changed when the Foundation brought their dynamic and inclusive rugby sessions to St Mary’s Primary School in Writhlington, Radstock. Ava-Rose discovered a newfound confidence through these sessions. She learned that she could run fast, and more importantly, she realised that rugby was a sport for everyone, regardless of experience or background. The sessions made her feel good about herself as she mastered new skills and embraced the joy of learning something different. One of the most empowering aspects for Ava-Rose was that the rugby sessions were exclusively for girls. This environment allowed her to try out the sport at a comfortable pace, free from the sometimes boisterous energy that can come with mixed-gender activities. She felt safer and more at ease, which encouraged her to push her boundaries and try new things. Scoring her first tries brought immense happiness, as it was a new achievement she had never imagined before. Georgia Clark – Class Teacher “The sessions run by Bath Rugby Foundation and Maddy’s Mark have been incredibly engaging. The girls developed their skills over time with plenty of practice. The exercises were tailored to specific skills, and the girls learned key rugby vocabulary, which they applied during gameplay without needing any prompts.” Maddy's Mark Maddy's Mark, in collaboration with Bath Rugby Foundation, has positively impacted Ava-Rose’s self-esteem and skill development. Through tailored sessions and a supportive environment, Ava-Rose not only learned the game of rugby but also built a foundation of confidence that will serve her well in all aspects of life. Maddy’s Mark (charity number 1200071) was established to remember Maddy Lawrence, a 20-year-old university student, and raise funds in her name to promote positive mental health and wellbeing in young women, through the sport of rugby. In just 18 months as a charity, Maddy’s Mark has been able to commit funds to bring rugby to over 2000 girls, having donated just over £55,000. It is so beneficial to their physical and mental health. Women's rugby, with its inclusivity and team spirit, not only provides challenge and fitness, but also helps to build self-esteem, long lasting friendships, and a sense of belonging. With your help and inspired by Maddy and all that she stood for; we will be able to help many more girls into all that this sport can give.To find out more about Maddy's Mark, visit their website.
