Typically reserved for the world’s most elite skydivers the HALO jump will see Iestyn descend from an altitude of 30,000 feet—pushing the limits of what few dare to attempt. Iestyn’s skydives will take him beyond the altitude typically used by specialised domestic and military personnel, requiring advanced oxygen systems, digital navigation, and visual spotting techniques to avoid commercial air traffic. The journey begins with an hour of breathing pure oxygen to prevent decompression sickness, a critical procedure developed during the space race. The extreme descent will see Iestyn reach speeds of over 220 MPH, enduring temperatures as low as -40°C. Without supplementary oxygen, consciousness would last just two minutes at this altitude. Iestyn said: “This challenge is about more than just pushing my limits—it’s about making a real difference in the lives of young people in Bath and North East Somerset. I’m proud to support Bath Rugby Foundation, a charity that is transforming lives through education, inclusion, and sport.” Bath Rugby Foundation is dedicated to empowering young people who need social, emotional, practical, and physical support. By bridging the gap between the most deprived and affluent areas, the Foundation builds confidence, develops life skills, and creates pathways to independence. Last year alone, the Foundation worked with over 4,400 children and young people through its Alternative Learning Hub and Sport For All programmes, delivering 2,575 hours of physical activity and 1,726 hours in the classroom. They have provided 2,399 hot, nutritious meals for vulnerable children and partnered with two local authorities, one college, 19 schools, 16 charities, 8 local service providers, and many more businesses and individuals to deliver the mission of helping to change young lives. “We are incredibly proud to have Iestyn’s support,” said Bath Rugby Foundation’s Head of Fundraising, Halena Coury. “His determination and commitment to taking on this challenge reflect the very values we strive to instil in the young people we work with—resilience, bravery, and the belief that anything is possible.” Iestyn’s fundraiser will support Bath Rugby Foundation’s mission of creating lasting change for young people in Bath and North East Somerset. With every donation, the Foundation can continue to offer essential programmes that make a real impact to our young people’s lives. Help Iestyn to reach his target.
