Two fundraising cyclists have completed an epic challenge, taking on a beast of a mountain four times – and coming out on top.

Will Trick and Dave Bowler completed four ascents of Tour de France mountain Mont Vontoux in 24 hours. The mountain is known as The Beast of Provence to cyclists who take on the challenge just once.

And to make matters even harder Will and Dave took on the climb on a tandem bike.

The duo set out to complete the task at 4am on Monday morning and scaled the mountain for the final time just after 2am on Tuesday.

In total they cycled over 100km with 20,500ft of climbing and burnt over 10,000 calories each.

Dave said: "The section that was the hardest was the last seven kilometres. We were both broken.

"We could see the summit, but it disappeared behind the mountain and then when it reappeared it didn't seem any closer."

While three of the climbs were on roads, one was on a mountain path. Sadly that path proved impossible to pass on the tandem so the duo had to use mountain bikes.

Will said: "The second and third summits were brilliant as there were lots of people around and it was still light.

"By the time we reached the fourth summit, while it was overwhelming to have made it and it felt like a great achievement we all just hugged each other and got into the car."

"We are very, very sore, being in the saddle for so long.

"On paper we shouldn't have been able to complete this challenge, but taking this on fits with the Foundation's ambition of showing that everything is possible.

Will and Dave are raising money for Bath Rugby Foundation. So far their fundraising stands at just over £7,000.

Dave added: "We've both been amazed by the support we have had from back home. We've had people checking in on us all the time and when we were taking breaks and things seemed tough we were shown video messages and messages of support, which really helped."
